It has long been said that we are in the age of IoT, where everything is connected, and the age of AI through big data analysis, but the development of AI applications requires a great deal of effort that cannot be achieved overnight. Meanwhile, digital transformation (DX) is flourishing in the corporate world, with the aim of shifting to a service business model using AI as a means of valuing the data owned or created by the company.
However, the current situation is that the cloud is the only choice for systems to achieve this vision, and the more the shift to IoT/DX progresses, the more added value will be concentrated on the cloud giant GAFA.
In order to break the current concentration on GAFA, to regain the supremacy of user companies, and to provide new added value that cannot be provided only by utilising cloud infrastructure, Midokura is aiming to provide an innovative distributed Edge AI Platform by following the trend from cloud computing to edge computing and keeping an eye on the development of low/no code development environments and the standardisation of operating systems for new edge devices such as RISC-V. In order to regain the supremacy of enterprises and to provide new added value that cannot be provided only through the use of cloud infrastructure, Midokura aims to provide an innovative distributed Edge AI Platform while keeping an eye on developments in low/no code development environments and trends in OS standardisation for new edge devices such as RISC-V.
This will enable AI developers and AI operators to more easily develop/implement/operate AI applications utilising edge devices, using any sensing data as input values, and also make it easier to perform AI learning/inference in real-time, whereas previously they had to rely on batch processing. In other words, real-time, event-driven edge applications like those in the movies can now be easily obtained.
Midokura, which was born in January 2010 as a true global tech start-up together with the developers of the high-speed distributed DB Dynamo and genius engineers who were architects in the early days of Amazon, has been a member of the Sony Group since June 2019, aiming to integrate Midokura's distributed computing technology/ Midokura is taking on the challenge of building a next-generation Edge AI Platform to compete with GAFA, aiming to integrate Midokura's distributed computing/virtualisation technology and Sony's advanced sensor technology.
